⁷³AM means Amplitude Modulation, where the amplitude of a carrier wave with frequency ${\omega }_{\mathit{carrier}}$ is modulated with the transmitted signal. AM-signals can easily be detected with an envelope detector, which can be done rather well if the envelope detector works only for the modulation frequency. This often goes wrong, resulting in poor detection.
